Entrepot

An entrepot is a specialized port with external trade relations of a re-export form. It acts as an intermediary center for trade between foreign countries to which goods in transit are brought for temporary storage before re-export. Entrepot functions have been assisted and encouraged in many instances by the creation of free ports. Entrepot is less dependent than other types of port on their hinterland. It is dedicated in whole or in part to the receiving, consolidating, sorting and redistributing of commodities.
